Cereals and seeds
The plant-based ingredients we select for the preparation of our products include seeds and cereals: maize, rice, oats, wheat and barley are mainly composed of carbohydrates, an essential source of energy, but they also contain amounts of protein and fibre, extremely useful for the health of your pet’s digestive system.
Rice and brown rice
The rice used in Schesir recipes is the seed of Oryza sativa, a cereal from local sources (Italy for dry foods, Thailand for wet), to reduce the impact of transport on the production process. Rice makes up between 1 and 4% of Schesir wet foods, and between 4 and 24% of Schesir dry foods. In wet foods, rice is used to balance the protein content and as a source of fibre; in dry foods, it gives the kibble the correct consistency and balances the protein content.
Tapioca starch
The tapioca starch used in Schesir wet foods is a valuable source of fibre and an alternative to rice. It comes from the tuberous roots of the cassava plant (Manihot esculenta Crantz, from the Euphorbiaceae family), grown in Thailand. In Schesir products tapioca takes the form of a natural sauce: the tiny white spheres become transparent and gelatinous when cooked. This ingredient is not a cereal, which means all Schesir products with sauce are Grain Free, and therefore Gluten Free.
Wheat
The wheat used in Schesir Dry BIO recipes is the seed of the cereal Triticum spp, grown in accordance with organic farming legislation and sourced from local producers to reduce the impact of transport on the production process. It offers your pet a natural source of fibre, which facilitates the correct absorption of nutrients by the intestinal cells.
Barley
The barley used in Schesir dry foods is the seed of the cereal Hordeum vulgare, sourced from Italian producers to reduce the impact of transport on the production process. It offers your pet a natural source of fibre, which facilitates the correct absorption of nutrients by the intestinal cells.
Maize
The maize used in Schesir dry foods is the seed of the cereal Zea mais, sourced from Italian producers to reduce the impact of transport on the production process. Maize is a source of carbohydrates and fibre; fat is concentrated in the germ, which is removed by grinding. It is added to just one Schesir wet product, offering an unusual and tasty alternative for your cat. Meanwhile, in Schesir dry foods, maize gives the extruded kibble the correct consistency and balances the protein content of the recipe.
Our maize undergoes more checks than those required by the guidelines for animal feed. To guarantee the safety of the end product, we accept only maize containing half the microtoxin levels permitted by law.
Quinoa
The quinoa used in Schesir products comes from plantations in Central and South America, the ancient native growing area for this plant. Quinoa is the seed of Chenopodium quinoa, which is not a cereal, but a source of carbohydrates and fibre. It is included in some of Schesir’s GRAIN FREE wet foods, which are therefore GLUTEN FREE. The quinoa is included to balance the protein content, add more flavour to the recipes and as an alternative source of fibre to rice, for cats (and cat owners) who prefer to avoid cereals.
