- Sea bass
The sea bass used in Schesir wet foods belongs to the Moronidae family. The Dicentrarchus labrax species is farmed in the Mediterranean Sea, FAO area 37, while the Dicentrarchus Punctatus species is fished in the Eastern Central Atlantic Ocean, FAO area 34.

- Salmon
The species used are only two: Onchorynchus nerka (called Sokeye or red salmon) and Onchorynchus gorbuscha (called pink salmon). They are fished in the open sea using sustainable methods which guarantee the protection of dolphins and at-risk species (Ocean friendly). They naturally contain fatty acids of the omega 3 series.

Only two species are used: Euthynnus affinis (called Bonito) and Katsuwonus pelamis (called Skipjack). These are species not over-exploited by the tuna industry. They are commercially known as “little tunny”, not because they are young specimens, but because fish belonging to this species never reach a large size as adults.

The squid used in Schesir wet recipes is fished in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean, FAO zone 71. It belongs to the species Loligo sp, Loligo formosana, or Uroteuthis Edulis, of the Loliginidae family. Schesir wet foods contain squid fished with sustainable methods, which guarantee the protection of dolphins and other endangered species (Ocean friendly).

Schesir wet foods contain chicken bred in Thailand, in compliance with the health and hygiene standards set out in European legislation. It belongs to the species Gallus domesticus, of the Phasianidae family (birds of Indian origin). Chicken is a source of high biological value proteins, which provide all the amino acids pets need.

- Quinoa
The quinoa used in Schesir wet foods comes from crops in Central and South America, ancient regions of origin of this vegetable. It is the seed of the Chenopodium quinoa plant, a chenopodiacea, so although it is not a grain, it is still a source of carbohydrates and fiber. It is present in some Schesir wet foods, clearly recognizable thanks to the GRAIN FREE logo on the packaging. These recipes are consequently also GLUTEN FREE. Quinoa is added to rebalance the protein intake, further flavor the recipe, and as a source of fiber in alternation with rice, for cats (and cat owners) who wish to avoid grains.

- Corn
The corn used in Schesir dry foods is the seed of the cereal Zea mais, sourced from Italian producers to reduce the impact of transport on the production process. Corn is a source of carbohydrates and fiber, while fats are contained in the germ which is eliminated during grinding. It is added to a single wet Schesir recipe to offer a tasty and unusual alternative to the cat. It is added into Schesir dry foods, together with the other cereals present in the formula, to obtain an optimal consistency of the extruded croquette and to rebalance the protein intake of the food. The corn we use is subjected to a greater number of checks than the recommended guidelines for animal feed: to ensure the safety of the final product, only corn containing half the mycotoxins allowed by the regulations is accepted. It is also added to a single wet Schesir recipe to offer a tasty and unusual alternative to the cat.

- Tapioca starch
The tapioca starch used in Schesir wet foods is a valuable source of fibre and an alternative to rice. It comes from the tuberous roots of the cassava plant (Manihot esculenta Crantz, from the Euphorbiaceae family), grown in Thailand. It starts out as small white spheres that become transparent and gelatinous when cooked: in Schesir products it is present in the form of a natural sauce. This ingredient is not a grain, which means all Schesir products with sauce are Grain Free, and therefore Gluten Free.

The rice included in Schesir recipes is the seed of Oryza sativa, a grain sourced from local crops (Italian for dry foods, Thai for wet foods), in order to reduce the impact of transport on the production process. Rice makes up between 1 and 4% of Schesir wet foods, and between 4 and 24% of Schesir dry foods. Rice is a source of carbohydrates and fiber and is added to wet foods to rebalance the protein intake and provide a source of fiber. A special blend of extracts of aromatic plants, registered under the name Synox, working in synergy for an antioxidant effect, defending cells from free radicals and helping to combat cellular ageing.
